Part 6; Wakeup Call

Judy had been awake for several hours tending to the triplets.

She had just set the plate of pancakes down when her phone rang.

The babies had all fallen back asleep and she didn't want to wake them. But who'd be calling at 4:30 in the morning?

"Doctor Lock? A man's voice spoke before she could address herself.

"This is her. Who is this?"

"My name's Chris Steel. I'm neighbors with the Hart family. There's been an issue. And I was told you were the one to contact."

"What sort of issue?" The Harts were a special case in town. And she was the only doctor qualified to handle them. There went her nap before the triplets woke up.

"It appears as if there was a large explosion in the downstairs bathroom. From what the Detective told me Gus is dead. I saw him last night and even for Gus he looked as if he'd lost the last of his marbles.

"Is that her?" Someone in the background barked.

"Yes, Detective, I was just…" Static hit Judy's ear as Detective Clavell, as it couldn't be any other with that attitude, grabbed the phone.

"Doc you need to get her ASAP. It's confirmed Gus is dead and Dorie's barricaded herself in their room. She won't let anyone in but she's lucid. Well lucid for her state. From what we gather Gus tried to kill her. She managed to escape, but now she won't leave her room. We need you. Now!"

"I'm on my way Detective, but what of Bebe? Is she alright? Was she hurt?" Judy knew Ethan was dating her, and from what Judy could see Bebe was a good girl who was forced to live in a horrible situation.

"She wasn't there when the firemen cleared the house, unless she's locked in the room with her mother. But from what we gather Dorie's alone.

"Thank you." Her heart went out to Bebe as she hung up the phone. The poor girl continued to get dealt bad cards. Judy went to wake up the twins before she had to leave. Before she made it up stairs Nikki walked out of the downstairs bathroom wearing the same outfit she had on yesterday. Judy didn't have the time to deal with Nikki's behavior problems. She would deal with it later. "Have you seen your brother this morning?"

"He's probably doing the nasty with Psycho Chick. She came here as I got home from work. You were already asleep but dad said it was cool." Nikki left out the part where she decided to ditch the kumbaya family moment and go hang with VJ. Now that was a fun night even if she was tired as hell.

Doing the nasty? Psycho chick? Dad said it was cool? Too many questions ran through Judy's mind as she ran up the stairs to Ethan's room.

There he was sound asleep. Only he wasn't alone. Bebe Hart was sleeping beside him. Judy stood there stunned. Hadn't she taught him good values? Didn't he have enough siblings to know the basics of boy + girl= babies? 

Judy yelled at the top of her lungs. This wasn't the proper time to be freaking out, but after just giving birth to three babies she was tight on sanity herself.

"WHAT. DO. YOU. THINK. YOU'RE. DOING. WITH. MY. SON?"

Ethan was the first to jump out of bed. "Mom, mom, it's my fault. Really and nothing happened."

Bebe was right behind him on explanations and excuses. Babbling on how her father threatened her last night and she got scared and ran here. And…. 

Judy's mind halted at that. Bebe's father was dead. And her mother was in critical condition and could die if she didn't get her to the hospital soon. If Bebe did sleep with Ethan last night it was the least of he r problems.

"Bebe, I need to take you home now."

"But, my dad. He…"

"No sweetie, you need to go home now. I'll explain on the way."

"But…"

"No more buts. Ethan there's pancakes downstairs. Make sure the twins are ready for school and don't be late. I'll talk to you later. Now get dressed Bebe, I'll meet you in the car."

Ethan let Bebe changed in the bathroom before he had his morning shower and got the twins ready. 
When she came out barefoot he made sure to stop her, giving her a quick kiss. "I'm sorry about last night and this morning. I really did mean to sleep downstairs. You just looked so peaceful."

"It's fine. I actually haven't slept that well in a long time." She said putting her shoes on

"Bebe, look there's something I've been meaning to ask you, but stuff keeps happening and I don't want to wait to ask. Willyougotothespringformalwithme?"

"What?"

"I mean if you don't want to I guess that's okay.

"Ethan!" She interrupted, "What did you say?"

For someone who could smooth talk almost anyone Ethan seemed to be tongue tied with Bebe. He tried again. Will you… will you go to the spring formal with me?"

She gave him a quick kiss, "Of course I will silly. Just don't do anything than might embarrass me." He blushed.

"I'll try not to." She kissed him again.

"Silly, I'm teasing." 

He pulled her tight giving her a long kiss which left them spinning and her on the opposite side. 

"Now go before mom comes back." He gave her a quick embrace, "Bebe I uh.... Have a good day. I'll see you at school." Then he went to take an ice shower.
